Intermediate MIG Welding

Take your welding skills to the next level. This intermediate MIG welding class is designed for students who have completed a beginner welding course or have prior experience with basic MIG welding. Under the guidance of an experienced instructor, students will build on fundamental welding techniques while improving weld quality, consistency, and fabrication skills.

Participants will learn more advanced machine setup and adjustment, joint preparation, fit-up techniques, weld positioning, and troubleshooting common welding challenges. Students will continue developing their fabrication skills through the use of shop tools, including the plasma cutter, and will complete an instructor-led project that emphasizes precision, craftsmanship, and practical welding applications. The finished project can be taken home for use or display.

Students must wear appropriate work clothes, including leather, closed-toe shoes or boots, a long-sleeved cotton or wool shirt or jacket, lightweight leather work gloves or gauntlet welding gloves, and safety glasses. No synthetic fabrics are allowed. A welding cap or suitable lightweight cotton head covering under the welding hood is recommended. Equipment and supplies will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own welding helmet if desired (a limited number of loaner helmets are available through our tool room).

By the end of the course, students will have greater confidence in their welding abilities, an improved understanding of fabrication processes, and a completed project that showcases their developing skills.
